Mount Dora Pastor Breaks World Record

It’s Over! Zach Preached for 53 Hours and 18 Minutes!

HE DID IT! Pastor Zach Zehnder spoke for 53 hours and 18 minutes to surpass the World Record for the Longest Speech in the Guinness Book. At 7:32AM on Sunday November 9, 2014, Zehnder broke the previous record of 48 hours and 31 minutes set by Vickrant Mahajan of India. Zehnder shattered the record by continuing to speak until until 12:18PM. This record-breaking moment took place at theCross Mount Dora, 18880 U.S 441, Mount Dora, FL where Zehnder serves as Pastor.

Zehnder began his remarkable feat at 7AM on Friday, November 7. He presented the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. People around the world witnessed this interactive and live-streamed event. While Zehnder spoke, donors pledged funds for a worthy cause.

The telethon-style fundraiser benefited Hand in Hand’s Powerhouse Recovery Center, a brand new addiction treatment center for men in Eustis, FL. The first of its kind in Lake County, Powerhouse Recovery is modeled after a Naples-based program which has the highest success rate in the country. Over $90,000 has been raised out of a $100,000 goal. Donations can be made at

Pastor Zehnder has been supported the last two days by his wife, two young sons, family, friends, a medical support team, and church goers of theCross. Hand in Hand Executive Director Dave Douglas states, “I’m blown away by the generosity of so many people who have given their time and talents to support this cause.”

The event was presented by Honor Someone Now. Additional sponsors included Amy Sellers Art Gallery, Thrivent Financial, Victory Performance Consulting, Spencer Davis, Inc., and Florida Waterman Hospital. Thanks also to in-kind donations from Monster Energy, Waffle House, Kiku, Coke, Mellow Mushroom, Perkins, and The Cuban Place.

According to Guinness Book rules, Zehnder was allowed 5 minute breaks every hour. Organizers will submit all evidence of his efforts to Guinness World Records and expect official word in six to eight weeks.
